Various methods that include fly-fishing, surface lures, drop shots and bait fishing are practiced and produce different results in different conditions. Fish for garrick, kob, lady fish and spotted grunter using light tackle and top water lures. Large mouth bass can also be targeted in the upper reaches of the Kowie some 22 km from the river mouth.
A strict catch and release ethic is enforced on the river.
